Ultimately, USC came calling -- and the rest was history. Wilks wanted his private home to be underground with a pyramid roof as its main source of light. He wanted a lake, a pool, a wood-burning fireplace and a living room fountain. Using money earned mostly by playing the stock market, he made his dream come true. But Ohio's strangest abodes offer memorably unique twists on what some people call home sweet home. From its construction in 1920 to its renovation in 2017, learn about a century of Ford history.

Welcome to Ford of Downtown LA

The Perry's Mount Pleasant House was considered the finest and most expensive residence to arrive in mid-1870s Los Angeles. During the rapid urban expansion of the 1960s, Victorian buildings in Los Angeles were being demolished at an alarming rate. The Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument program, established in 1961, could evaluate properties and list-register them, but not protect them. In 1969, at the request of the Los Angeles Cultural Heritage Commission, a group of concerned citizens established the Cultural Heritage Foundation to counteract this destruction.

After the rains the building was briefly red-tagged as "no entry" but was down graded to yellow- for limited entry by late 2005. At that point significant damage to the retaining wall at the southern rear of the building remained. In 2005 the house was added to the National Trust for Historic Preservation's list of the "11 Most Endangered Historic Places". According to online property sites, the asking price on Ford's former luxury retreat breaks down to $2,785 per square foot and a monthly payment of $138,506. Harrison Ford's former estate in a very exclusive part of Los Angeles is currently for sale, and whoever buys it will end up owning a piece of movie history. The Salt Box was one of the last homes on Bunker Hill, and one of the first moved to the Heritage Square Museum grounds.

It has a place of remembrance as a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument. The carriage barn was built in 1899 on the grounds of what is now Pasadena's Huntington Memorial Hospital for Dr. Osborne, a member of the hospital's staff. Its architectural style is Queen Anne Cottage with Gothic Revival influences. It has three gables and a distinctive pitched roof. The barn was saved from demolition and moved to the Heritage Square Museum in 1981.

The home features a fantastical cedar-shingled exterior, a glass room that nearly floats next to the main structure and a bright orange spiral suitcase leading to the front entrance. The NFL will have weapon detectors installed that attendees must walk through at the gates of the event, which will take place at Cadillac Square, Campus Martius, Hart Plaza and a portion of Woodward Avenue.

Our education programs are perfect for the entire family. In its past life, the ship transported iron ore and related materials across the Great Lakes for more than 50 years. Then, it was sold to Frank J. Sullivan of Sullivan Marine in Cleveland, Ohio, who took the ship's forecastle deck and converted it into a summer home in 1986. The 7,000 square-foot, four-story structure features walnut-paneled staterooms, dining room, galley and passenger lounge – all designed for Henry Ford's pleasure for his business on the ship. If you decide to drive downtown, make a plan and prearrange parking. Many off-street lots and garages are booked, and street parking will be limited or restricted in the area.

The Mount Pleasant House was built in 1876 by prominent businessman and lumber baron William Hayes Perry. Designed by renowned architect Ezra F. Kysor, the home contains detailing to convey the wealth and social status of the family. These elements include Corinthian columns, fine hardwood floors, a sweeping main staircase, and marble fireplace mantles. It was built in the fashionable neighborhood (in the 19th century) of Boyle Heights.

Parking regulations will be enforced; vehicles may be towed. Those planning to park downtown are encouraged to arrive by 10 a.m. You may find off-street parking options on the Park Detroit app or on Park Whiz. The outward sweep of the entrance stairway, the sculpted brackets under the eaves, the slanted bay windows, and the narrow Corinthian columns are characteristic of its Victorian Italianate style. In 1975, the house was moved from 1315 Mount Pleasant Street to the museum grounds, and restoration was begun by the Colonial Dames Society of America. While some fell into disrepair and others made their way into museums, this Ohio home remains a private residence. A film documenting the house, called The Ennis House, was shot in hi definition digital 3D by film maker Tom Koester. An early cut of the film premiered at the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy Conference in Chicago, October 2007, but has had few public showings. The house consists of two buildings, the main house and a smaller chauffeur's apartment/garage, separated by a paved courtyard.

"It's a cutting garden for the Hybrid Tea roses and Ball dahlias that decorate the lovely rooms inside the house." In August 2005, the house was returned to its original name, and the Trust for Preservation of Cultural Heritage was renamed the Ennis House Foundation. Initially supervised by Frank Lloyd Wright's son Lloyd Wright, the owners took over construction supervision after the superstructure reached the windows. They carried out various changes, deviating from Wright's original design. The Ennis House is a residential dwelling in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, United States, south of Griffith Park. The home was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for Charles and Mabel Ennis in 1923 and was built in 1924.

This 3,600-square-foot home situated in Painesville resembles something straight out of Bedrock, hence its nickname as the Flintstones House. Built in the 1970s by artist Wayne Trapp, the 5-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom home was constructed using concrete and foam. “(Suuronen) always said it was based on the number pi — the design was mathematical rather than prompted by spaceships and flying saucers,” Simon Robson, owner of the website thefuturohouse.com, told Ohio Magazine.

Introduction to Relational Databases RDBMS

relational database design

Learn to create efficient and scalable databases for any application. New to this edition are more examples, highlighted and defined key terms, both throughout and at the end of each chapter, and end-of-chapter review exercises. Two new chapters have been added on SQL, along with appendices that include a data model example, sample ERD exercises and SQL lab with solutions. Examples are typical business examples which are relevant and current. Example database designs are very simple to comprehend so that emphasis is placed on learning the concepts. Suggestion - the text focus is on designing for operational data.

Exploring the Different Types of Data Models

These are the kinds of insights that are gained from creating an ERD as part of the database construction process, saving us time later in the process by surfacing possible problems early. This is part 1 of a 3-part series taking you through the process of designing, coding, implementing and querying a relational database, starting from zero. See part 2 (Coding and Implementing a Relational Database using MySQL) here, and part 3 (Data Analysis in MySQL — Operators, Joins and More in Relational Databases) here. A poorly designed database makes it difficult to access the information you need and can jeopardize the accuracy of your data.

New to Software Development? Start here.

relational database design

Versioning can be implemented using various technologies and tools, such as version control systems, backup systems, or database features. Caching is a technique of storing frequently used or recently accessed data in memory or disk, to reduce latency and workload. Caching can improve the performance and scalability of applications that need to access data from remote or slow sources, such as databases or web services. Caching can also reduce the cost of data access by minimizing network traffic and resource consumption. Caching can be implemented at different levels, such as application level, database level, or network level. However, there weren’t any theories for how computers could organize data in meaningful, logical ways.

SQLite

MySQL features built-in replication support with ACID compliance, shared-nothing clustering, and supports multiple storage engines. However, using some storage engines can cause SQL not to work properly. When you purchase a Certificate you get access to all course materials, including graded assignments.

Which attributes do we want to store?

SQL allows you to filter and manipulate query results with a variety of clauses, predicates, and expressions, giving you fine control over what data will appear in the result set. Locking prevents other users and applications from accessing data while it is being updated. In some databases, locking applies to the entire table, which creates a negative impact on application performance. Other databases, such as Oracle relational databases, apply locks at the record level, leaving the other records within the table available, helping ensure better application performance.

SQL Queries

When you enroll in the course, you get access to all of the courses in the Certificate, and you earn a certificate when you complete the work. Your electronic Certificate will be added to your Accomplishments page - from there, you can print your Certificate or add it to your LinkedIn profile. If you only want to read and view the course content, you can audit the course for free. Learn key benefits of generative AI and how organizations can incorporate generative AI and machine learning into their business.

Designing a Relational Database and Creating an Entity Relationship Diagram

This is analogous to using the index of a book to go directly to the page on which the information you are looking for is found, so that you do not have to read the entire book to find what you are looking for. Relational databases typically supply multiple indexing techniques, each of which is optimal for some combination of data distribution, relation size, and typical access pattern. The use of efficient indexes on both primary and foreign keys can dramatically improve query performance. This book is quite comprehensive in its coverage of key topic areas expected to be covered in an introductory database course at the undergraduate (bachelor's degree) level.

Step 2: Analyze data requirements

The authors should also consider including an introduction to star schema and snowflake schema topics in order to introduce datamarts and data warehouses in a separate chapter. Last, but not least, the authors should consider using an open-source database such as MySQL for demonstration of SQL concepts rather than MS Access (which is a proprietary and a desktop database software). The software used to store, manage, query, and retrieve data stored in a relational database is called a relational database management system (RDBMS). The RDBMS provides an interface between users and applications and the database, as well as administrative functions for managing data storage, access, and performance. It’s a collection of processes that guide the designing, development, implementation and maintenance of enterprise data management systems.

We will want to store the name of the teacher, perhaps their date of birth, their contact information, tax or legal information, and — as this is a language school — the languages they teach. Let’s go through the requirements and see if we can identify our entities. Some people might skip this step and go straight to coding, but creating an ERD to make sure we have everything planned out before we build the database itself is best practice, and strongly recommended.

Clients offer courses to their employees, who have the option to participate. Before you design your database, you’ll need to assess how your team currently does its work, and identify what kind of data is most important to that work. Every organization does its work a little differently, and as such, each organization has its own business rules. Ideally, your team’s database should enforce your unique business rules. This tabular structure shifts the focus to handling data, which allows faster performance and the use of complex, high-level queries. It also causes some limitations, as SQLite only partially provides triggers, has a limited ALTER TABLE function, and cannot write to views.

DrawSQL makes it easy for teams to collaborate on creating and maintaining schema diagrams. With a single source of truth, there's no need for manually syncing diagram files between different developers and offline tools anymore. It will delete the tuples from REFERENCING RELATION if the value used by REFERENCING ATTRIBUTE is deleted from REFERENCED RELATION. E.g.; For, if we delete a row from BRANCH with BRANCH_CODE ‘CS’, the rows in STUDENT relation with BRANCH_CODE CS (ROLL_NO 1 and 2 in this case) will be deleted. Most RDBMS can be setup to perform the check and ensure the referential integrity, in the specified manner.

Now that you have a general understanding of the relational model’s history, let’s take a closer look at how the model organizes data. Finally, after implementing the physical design of the database, we’re ready to input the data & test our integrity. This phase involves testing our database for its integrity to see if something got left out or, if anything new to add & then integrating it with the desired application. However, depending on specific requirements above criteria might change. But these are the most common things that ensure a good database design. In a "product sales" database, a product may have optional supplementary information such as image, moreDescription and comment.

For example, chapter 14 (Database Users) was extremely short, and could have been covered (perhaps was?) in a much earlier chapter like chapter 2 (Fundamental Concepts). However, because it was so short, I worry that there was not enough context provided or depth of explanation so that beginners in this field would be able to follow it with any degree of confidence. I think this book would require HEAVY additional guidance from an instructor.

He was, much more than his father, well-patronized by Hollywood, which found him more approachable, less demanding, and less expensive. His archives are at UCLA Special Collections.

Around 1956, most of the house was destroyed to build a new one, preserving only the pool and one side of the house. Sold to Richard and Anita Lin. Sold in 2014 to Jennifer Lindberg and Chris Cunningham.

28 living room corner ideas to make the most of your empty spaces

living room corner furniture design

You could even just wall mount a shelf you can perch your laptop on and add a corkboard to make the space feel more... 'Whether your choice of artwork is framed prints or large-scale oils, it’s tempting to position them all in the centre of the wall. But by taking your art into the corner, or corners, it brings instant interest – not only in the pieces themselves but because it’s not the place you always expect to find them,' says Quinn.

Los Angeles Home Design Shop

Use this to your advantage by picking furniture that fits well, even in the trickiest of spaces. For larger corners (or otherwise tricky spots) in a living or great room space, add a small conversation set. This will provide a nice place to get away from the hubbub of the main space, and it can be a great reading nook too.

Take Advantage of Tight Spots

Carefully decorated corners can transform awkward, empty corners into eye-catching zones. For an alternative idea, consider hanging wall art as a series of panels for a statement focal point. 'Try mixing and matching different frames for a more eclectic display,' says Henriette Von Stockhausen, founder, VSP Interiors. 'When it comes to designing a storage bench beneath a window, proportions are key,' says Irene Gunter of Gunter & Co Interiors.

Placing one sofa with its back to this path underscores the separation between the two areas. Grant yourself the flexibility to switch your living room furniture arrangement to match the occasion. Fill an empty corner with a lightweight chair that can be pulled easily into the sitting area if needed.

Add in pieces like ottomans or stools that can function as side tables for drinks or serve as seating for guests. In this minimalist living room, the multi-use feature wall consists not only of a built-in seating area, but also a living room fireplace – and a spot for the TV. But if there is something that most spaces lack, it is it more living room seating. Turn a blank corner into your own gallery wall by hanging artwork together as a cluster.

Her TV show, Fixer Upper, has garnered millions of viewers who tune in to see what the interior designer does next, and she never disappoints. But if you want to achieve a similar aesthetic, there is one important rule to follow – learn how to maximize your 'dead' corners. Strategic furniture arranging can make particularly long or large living rooms feel cozy and intimate. Bring a comfortable sense of scale to the room by dividing it into two conversation groupings with a path between them.

Open Living Room Layout Ideas

Unloved living room corners are rife with decorating opportunities. While leaving an empty corner vacant can be tempting, you would be surprised at how easy it can be to decorate this underutilized space elegantly. With a carefully considered living room layout, it’s possible to turn an empty corner into a dual-purpose space that can accommodate visitors and also work as an office, too. Flank each side with seating, which could be two sofas or a sofa and a pair of chairs, and place a large coffee table in the middle.

Explore A Variety Of Styles For Every Room

Creating a separate bijou entertaining space in a corner is a great way to optimize space; it's the perfect spot for a board game if other members of the family are happy watching TV. This can work to offer a separate space for a snooze, catch up on the weekend papers, or some mindful me-time. A good armchair is an essential piece of how to design a living room, after all. 'Lighting in the corners or far edges of a room is also a good tip for creating a sense of space in the evening,' says Niki Wright, Founder of lights&lamps.

A vintage compilation of leather, wool and wood—Hammer and Spear is a place that feels half hunting lodge, half southern estate sale, and all completely original. And given that they are actually on site most of the time, they can give you a history of the product—perfect for the conversation that each piece will be starting. The effortless luxury of leather or the warmth and expressiveness of fabric? It’s about choosing the upholstery that works for you and your home.

If your living room is frequently used for chats with family and friends, choose a furniture layout that facilitates conversation. Pull the seating pieces close to the middle of the room and position them so that they face each other. Place a coffee table in the middle to keep drinks within easy reach for both sides. Now that you know what a corner sofa is and its benefits, here’s a list of some modern living room corner sofa designs.

When arranging your living room furniture, start with the largest piece first. Orient the piece toward the room's most prominent feature, which could be a TV, fireplace, gallery wall, or window. If possible, avoid placing the sofa directly in front of a window, as this might block some of the natural light. Next, position smaller seating options, such as chairs or love seats, opposite or adjacent to the first piece. Finish by filling in with accent furniture, including ottomans (like this Better Homes & Gardens Round Tufted Storage Ottoman, $78, Walmart), coffee tables, end tables, and lamps. Make sure each seat is within reach of at least one tabletop surface.

This apart from sprucing up the decor quotient of your living room. If you love entertaining guests, a bar cart in a living room corner can be a functional and visually appealing addition. Display your favorite spirits, glassware, and cocktail accessories, and transform the cart into a stylish and inviting mini bar. Alternatively, you can use a bar cart to create a mobile coffee station. As we conclude this exploration of living room corner ideas, I hope you feel inspired and equipped to transform these spaces into meaningful, beautiful parts of your home.

If you're brave with interior design and love bold interior design, you can emulate this design in your own lounge by making sure you're playing with the size of the prints you're combining. For instance, try it out by mixing a small animal print with a large floral design like this room or combine different designs in the same color. If you peruse the internet long enough, you will find poems inspired by Galerie Half—which is, we must imagine, one of the highest compliments to which any establishment can aspire.

Customisable in over 120 different fabrics, materials and colours, discover our range of corner sofas and chaise sofas today. Velvet looks good, creates a sophisticated appeal and can last for a long time if you invest in the velvet quality. Therefore, it is understandable if you are thinking of having your living room corner sofa design in velvet. The corner sofa shown in the picture has a terracotta velvet fabric with rose gold legs. The sofa comes with an armless corner section that will allow you to maximise the seating capacity of the sofa.

In his testimony, Mr. Pecker also spoke of an earlier postelection meeting at Trump Tower, in December 2016. Michael D. Cohen, Mr. Trump’s lawyer and fixer, asked him to persuade Mr. Trump to pay out his holiday bonus, Mr. Pecker said. He also testified that Mr. Cohen had told him he had not yet been repaid for the $130,000 he had spent on a hush-money deal with a porn star, Stormy Daniels. The second week of Donald Trump’s Manhattan criminal trial was dominated by four days of testimony by David Pecker, the former publisher of The National Enquirer, who detailed his efforts to safeguard Mr. Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. The criminal trial of Donald Trump featured vivid testimony on Thursday about a plot to protect his first presidential campaign and the beginnings of a tough cross-examination of the prosecution’s initial witness, David Pecker. The third witness in the criminal trial of Donald J. Trump is Gary Farro, a banker who is testifying on Friday about his work with Mr. Trump’s former lawyer and fixer on a $130,000 hush-money deal in 2016.

takeaways from David Pecker’s testimony so far.

For Mr. Pigott, 64, who has written a book about the history of the city’s courthouses, the real significance is what it says about the status of a few blocks of Manhattan as a nexus. He pointed out that Mr. Trump’s civil fraud case and defamation case also both played out this year in courthouses within spitting distance of the criminal trial. In 1957, Universal Studios lost the rights to the original story,[5] and a remake was released in 1963, directed by William Castle and co-produced with Hammer Film Productions. For many years, the original version was considered a lost film and gained a tremendous reputation as one of the pre-eminent gothic horror films.

Here’s what we know about Gary Farro, the third witness.

Tom enters the house, and finds that his roommate Casper is dead. Gladys says her relationship with William is platonic, and suggests she should live with Roger instead. They go back to the house, where they wake up William and tell him about their new romance. Meanwhile, Philip and Margaret go into the room where he heard the voice; they find Roderick Femm there. He warns them about his eldest son, Saul, a crazed pyromaniac kept in the locked room. Philip and Margaret discover that Morgan has let Saul out; they go downstairs to warn the other guests.

Five takeaways from the second week of Donald J. Trump’s criminal trial.

Prosecutors and defense lawyers presented dueling portraits of Mr. Trump’s actions. Another vintage masterpiece, this 20th century French dog home is made in the Baroque Revival style. A place for the love of all things Horror, Science Fiction, Drama, and Comedy.

Trump looks utterly spent as he rises at the end of the long first week of testimony in his criminal trial. As he passes reporters, he grimaces, then glares, putting on a braver face as he leaves the courtroom. The banker, Gary Farro, said that Mr. Cohen was assigned to him at First Republic Bank. Mr. Cohen always had a sense of urgency and a preference for secrecy, Mr. Farro testified, most notably around the time Mr. Cohen arranged an October 2016 hush-money payment to a porn star who said she had a sexual encounter with Mr. Trump, Stormy Daniels. Mr. Trump’s reimbursement of that payment is at the heart of the criminal case.

After the first two witnesses testified about Trump’s personal behavior, we’re getting a dry recitation of banking transactions now, a reminder of what this trial’s charges relate to. This material is dry but the prosecutor, Rebecca Mangold, is questioning Gary Farro slowly and deliberately. Farro said that Michael Cohen was eager to connect with him and wanted to open a limited liability company immediately. Farro then took steps to open an account for him and specified with his team that Cohen didn’t want addresses on the checks. The first criminal trial of former President Donald J. Trump is underway.

This well-performed, atmospheric thriller features the first starring horror role for Boris Karloff, as the hulking, disfigured butler. The Cohen Film Collection is proud to present this stunning new 4K restoration. It was placed at number 71 on a Time Out poll of the best horror films. Justice Merchan imposed the gag order on Mr. Trump in late March, barring him from making public statements about any witnesses, prosecutors, jurors or court staff, as well as their families. But within a week, Mr. Trump found a loophole in the order and repeatedly attacked the judge’s daughter, a Democratic political consultant.

On Friday, one of Mr. Trump’s lawyers, Emil Bove, sought to find inconsistencies related to what Mr. Pecker had said about his interactions with Mr. Trump and his reasons for publishing negative stories about his opponents. The lawyer for Donald J. Trump who on Friday led the cross-examination of David Pecker, the former publisher of The National Enquirer and first witness in the trial, used confrontational questioning to try to catch Mr. Pecker in contradictions. For a decade, Robert Pigott, a lawyer, has led walking tours of the courthouses of Manhattan, guiding visitors around landmarks where the city’s rich legal history has played out. Now the trial of Donald J. Trump has added a chapter to the story he gets to tell. After the hush-money payment became public, Ms. Daniels’s lawyer at the time, Michael Avenatti, provided NBC News with an email from an assistant to Mr. Farro confirming the transfer.

She has been on the team for several years, and she typically sits with Christopher Conroy, another prosecutor, behind the main table. But Mr. Pecker later testified that the agreement’s real purpose had been to bury the story of the affair. Mr. Trump is charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in an effort to conceal the payment. Mr. Trump has pleaded not guilty and denied that he had sex with Ms. Daniels. This canine retreat marries the classic dog house look—complete with bone-shaped name plate—with a more modern aesthetic. Oh, your dog house wasn't crafted in the 1960s in Switzerland?

At the conclusion of his testimony today, Gary Farro referenced a document showing that Michael Cohen opened a limited liability company called Essential Consultants L.L.C., and indicated that it was a real estate consulting company. The company was later used to pay Stormy Daniels the hush money. His testimony also teed up the story of Stormy Daniels, a porn star who claims to have had sex with Mr. Trump in 2006 and received a hush-money payment in the days before the 2016 election, a deal at the center of the case. Prosecutors on Thursday accused former President Donald J. Trump of violating a gag order four additional times, saying that he continues to defy the judge’s directions not to attack witnesses, prosecutors and jurors in his hush-money trial.

During dinner, the group are joined by Sir William Porterhouse and a chorus girl with the stage name Gladys DuCane, who also seek refuge from the storm. As the group chats by the fireplace, Gladys reveals her real last name is Perkins. The electric lights go out and Rebecca tells Horace to get a lamp from an upstairs landing. As he fetches the lamp, he notices a locked room and hears a voice coming from another room.

“The eyes of the nation and the world are trained on criminal court cases in New York County, whether it’s organized crime, Wall Street cases or federal cases,” Mr. Pigott said. Mr. Pigott’s tours, which he runs in his spare time, revolve around a cluster of downtown buildings that are the borough’s judicial hub. For now, 100 Centre Street — the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse, where the former president’s case is being heard — is the focus. Ms. Graff continued her service during his 2016 presidential campaign and after Mr. Trump moved into the White House. Ms. McDougal is a former Playboy model who has claimed to have had sex with Mr. Trump.

Stormy appears to be a reference to Stormy Daniels, who has also claimed to have had an affair and whose hush-money payment is central to the criminal case against Mr. Trump. Trump cracks a small smile as Graff speaks glowingly of her time working for Trump. She says she never had the same day twice and called Trump “fair” as a boss. Farro was a banker at First Republic when Michael Cohen was seeking to arrange the $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels. Cohen, seeking to get the money together, was contacted by Farro’s assistant at First Republic Bank.

For The Innocents, most of what you see of Bly Manor exists on the sound stages within Shepperton Studios, while a facade was constructed on the lot. For the larger exterior shots, director Jack Clayton selected the old gothic mansion that stood defiantly atop Sheffield Park in East Sussex. House is a haunted mansion flick with more on its mind than creaky floorboards and things that go bump in the night. The supernatural elements serve as a metaphor for PTSD, though the film is packed with too much humor to work as a truly effective examination of the condition. Mr. Trump has been subdued compared with his appearances at civil trials in Manhattan, where he was known to mutter loudly and twice stormed out. He detailed a deal with a former doorman of a Manhattan building managed by the Trump Organization who said that Mr. Trump had fathered a child out of wedlock. Despite the story being false, Mr. Pecker said the tabloid paid him $30,000 to prevent embarrassment.

Mix Materials

Textiles like cotton, linens, jute and natural elements are instrumental in delivering the coastal style. Some natural materials go a step ahead and are made from grass found in some coastal regions. The classic American coastal style will house elements like seashells, netting, healthy use of rattan and wicker, and very soft use of light shaded pastel color scheme everywhere. Imagine the tranquillity and serenity you feel when you are near the coast. The interior design style has been around for a long time, invisible to the social eye. The coastal design scheme is an organic culmination of the way people who lived around the coast designed their homes.

Feature Nautical Lighting

It helps modernize a seaside atmosphere to have aesthetic appeal and functional aspects. Modern Coastal design can deliver the beachy lifestyle without the tackiness. Instead of a visually screaming aesthetic consisting of colored surfboards or wall art, it is replaced by a subtle design language. When choosing the best soft furnishings for a beachy scheme, look to those with a relaxed, lived-in feel.

The first rule of a thriving coastal interpretation is to keep your aesthetics light and airy. To achieve this, you need to find the right shade of wood that compliments your design’s other textures and patterns. Unfortunately, dark wood proves to be too overpowering and doesn’t give you that light and straightforward emotion. You must bring in warm shades of browns and yellows with the help of naturally sourced textures. This means you can pair it with modern and sleek elements like Carrara marble tiles, and it will dissolve effortlessly into the coastal language.

We have embarked on CCL ships, walked through the empty casino and the smell of smoke could knock you off your feet. They definitely need to work on their filtration systems. We cruised end of October and had pretty much same experience. People on  this cruise were very nice OR extremely rude.

The poblano and corn soup was a lukewarm and thin, like chicken broth thickened with potato flakes and has four carrot slivers on top - no peppers, potatoes, corn, or flavor. Mushroom soup pretty much the same, very watered down. By the beginning of day three, instead of hunger as lunch and dinner times approached, I feel my stomach just clench and a feeling of dread. Only the second cruise ever where I was ready to go home days before the end of the cruise. My cruises have been about 50% Royal Caribbean and 30% Carnival, with about four each on Princess, Celebrity, and MSC. We have also cruised on Norwegian three times but will no longer book with them.

Carnival Ships and Roll Calls

I think some of the passengers were more rude and irritated because of the lines unfortunately. Will never cruise from NY again, although we live on Long Island - an absolute fiasco!! We've sailed for 30 years and mostly in winter out of different Florida ports. Hated having so many colder sea days (although we were actually lucky with good weather in the 60's, so we could be outside up on Serenity deck those days).

Carnival Freedom Roll Calls

Never had that experience on any ship/cruise before. Also, a lot of them were first time cruisers -- I knew this because the comedians always asked the audience, and they were always surprised to hear the answers from the crowd. And, (I don't know if it's correlated), based on what I saw, almost all the first time cruisers were black, at least on this ship. If this is a Vista class ship they dropped the ball in the buffet because the other ships are way better. We just came back from a 10-day cruise on Venezia out of Manhattan.

That was quite a turn off for me, but I was warned on TripAdvisor before hand that NY’ers have a tend to be rude, just the way of life there. 🤷‍♀️ casino smoke was horrible and worse when they tried to clean it with an overwhelming smell of air freshener. Embarkation was actually pretty good for us, debarking was a bit ridiculous. We had the shuttle to JFK and what a mess out there trying to find the bus! We are currently on the Vista, experiencing our absolute worst cruise out of ninety-five on different cruise lines. I thought people were exaggerating about inedible and disgusting food, but now understand exactly what they were saying.

There have been cutbacks on all five lines, but none come even close to what Carnival has done. This ships design is perfect for northern cruises, as we all know she was designed for another line and has been “adapted” to CCL. They have a strong amount of experience sailing out of NYC and also sailing out of there year round. Overall, I am sure they are pleased with cabins sales, but it comes down to revenue optimization. I wouldn’t suggest this ship for anyone who loves spending most of their time on the lido deck because it is small and incredibly stuffy and hot when the roof is closed.

Tips for future guests on Venezia

They looked like garnishes instead of ingredients actually listed in the description of the dish. I was served an Emeril’s salad with peppercorn dressing in the description, absolutely dry, without a drop of dressing. When I requested salad dressing, I was eventually brought a container of garlic mayonnaise.

General Cruising Topics

However, selecting the right solutions takes preparation and research. This guide outlines five areas of consideration to help you find the right fit. A place to post any severe weather that may effect cruising. A place for everyone to introduce themselves.

Even though NY is our homeport, we have waited on booking Venezia due to some of the problems Mieng mentioned. We were hoping they would straighten out the embarkation/debarkation issues by now. As far as Kona_wahine's comment on NYers tending to be rude - not all of us are - lol! We have had the same issues with some Miami cruises. As far as smoke on CCL ships go - I entirely agree. Wish they would make the casino non-smoking, as the smell does tend to build up and drift to other parts of the ship.

They were also correct about the horrible design of the Liquid Lounge, and of the smoke. We are booked on the Venezia in January 2025 but will be canceling it as soon as we get home. Thank you to all of you who have posted here for confirming our concerns. I enjoyed Venezia despite a few of its flaws. I planned on writing a review but the holidays are taking all my time at the moment. I’ll be sailing her again in February and I hope it’s at least an equally enjoyable experience.

The prime rib was full of ugly chunks of fat and was unappetizing enough to ruin the meal on its own. Yesterday’s lunch at JiJi’s (free) was carmelized pineapple pork noodles. There was one small piece each of pineapple, red pepper, and broccoli on the top of the large bowl of bland noodles, along with five small pieces of pork.
